BackTyping: what is it good for?

BackTyping is a brilliant yet simple ergonomic concept that allows full QWERTY typing in handheld devices. Typing as we know it hasn't changed since the invention of the typewriter machine, in 1867, 32 years before the U.S. patent commissioner declared "Everything that can be invented has been invented." Typewriter machines made a long way, from the desks of the 19th century to the living room couch of the 21st century, without changing too much. The struggle of a 19th century clerk, leaning forward to his 10kg machine has no place in your living room, pocket or even on your desk.

Grippity1.0 for Media Center and IPTV's

Grippity's first product is the Grippity1.0 - It combines the ergonomics of a game controller, the comfort of a remote control and the functionality of a full QWERTY keyboard and mouse in one device. An all-in-one input device to control and sort your media, browse and chat - while sitting on the couch. Still don't get it? Why should you BackType in the living room? Here's why.

  • Size - While the average Media Center user types only 5% of the time, the QWERTY layout takes 95% of the input device size. The 1.0 is the smallest ten-fingers input device in the world (at least until the Grippity 2.0 is ready:).
  • Usability - The Grippity1.0 has a great orientation feature. This means that when you flip it so the back is facing you, the function of the keys change. For instance, the key that was used in the normal orientation for the letter 'C', is now pressed with your thumb to switch a channel. This means 120 keys in a hand held device!
  • Comfort - The small size and hand held design give you full PC control, including typing, from the deep and warm conform of your couch. No more leaning forward to the coffee table and no more balancing a typewriter sized device on your laps.
  • Ergonomics - The palms are kept in a neutral position, reducing the risk for carpal tunnel syndrome. The ability to type at any body posture reduces the shoulders and back aches, caused by constant typing posture. This is the healthiest typing concept ever. Someone is getting a PhD out of it as we speak. Learn more...
  • Design - Just look at it. Fits well in a stylish living room, much more than a wireless electronic typewriter.

Grippity2.01 for Gaming Consoles

Today's gaming consoles are actually a gaming oriented media center. With internet connectivity, access to your media library and social application such as instant messaging and in-game chatting, the need for textual input on the carpet (don't worry, all gamers get there eventually) is getting closer to the need on the couch. Thumb-typing is the current solution, and it sucks. You can't type and play at the same time and you have only two (tired) thumbs to use. Grippity2.0 will solve these problems. You'll get to play and type at the same time, having those previously unused six fingers being able to type. That's 3 times more fingers to use for typing! If you use your gaming console as a media center, scroll up to the Grippity1.0 and see its advantages. They're the same. Ah, except for the design..
